TRPG Design: Character Creation
I am very fond the the character creation system I have put together, and wish to present the considerations that went into each aspect.
I wanted to have a simple set of determining qualities that would seed character into the blank canvas of a randomized character. Also, I wanted to clearly state what having a high or low stat implies in terms of RP.
Every good character needs both a tie to the world and people/resources out in the world they can turn to when stumped/in trouble (or to cause them trouble). The Affiliations were directly taken from Monarch Factory's video on city building. The Functions were just extrapolations on those.
The idea of the benefit came from Into the Odd's amazing character creator. I wanted each PC to have a defining "starter package" of RP tools to begin with, as well as giving some subtle world-building in the possibilities listed.
Inspired by Dungeon Craft and Bandit's Keep, I wanted each player to have a dedicated contact, as well as at the very minimum a background reason why they are participating in what will be the first adventure.
Example (Mother-LOD):
You Travel through Alien SpacesRoll 1d6 for Max HP
Add 3d6 each for Max Body, Calm, and Sanity:
(Note following Qualities if 14+ or 7-)Body: Strong / Fragile
Calm: Steady / Tense
Sanity: Sharp / Addled
Determine Bioclass, Affiliation, and Function:
1-4: Organic / 5, 6: Synthetic
1, 2: Social / 3, 4: Political / 5, 6: Economic /
7, 8: Religious / 9, 10: Militant
1: Overseer / 2: Emissary / 3: Labourer /
4: Scholar / 5: Combatant / 6: Outcast
Check Benefit, (d6, d6) Quality for Asset(s)
Name yourself, your Affiliation, and a Contact:
